Kairana (Uttar Pradesh): Internationally acclaimed award holder Yoga expert, Dr. Badrul Islam says there is the need to Islamize Yoga, lest Muslim youths get trapped by others. While Yoga is not related to any religion, the method of training may differ, he said.
A news report in Urdu daily Hamara Samaj says Dr. Badrul Islam has served the health ministry on regular basis and has undertaken a long journey of Yoga. On insistence of the well-known ex-police officer, Kiran Bedi, he trained the detainees at Tihar Jail for several months. In 1986, he demonstrated his art in Health Mela organized in Nehru Stadium. In 1985, he represented India as a Yoga expert in World Medical Conference held in Italy. He trained a number of groups in Egypt, Bangladesh and several Indian states. Baba Ram Dev’s teacher Dr. Ishwar Bhardwaj is his junior class fellow. He has also written two voluminous books on Yoga and released several video cassettes.
Dr. Badrul Islam says Yoga keeps a man healthy in old age too and helps in mental concentration. He quipped, “When a large number of world population is benefiting from it, why should we lag?” He told that Yoga greatly helped in inculcating positive attitude in prisoners of Tihar Jail, adding that it is useful in asthma, backache, depression, blood pressure and several other diseases.
Dr. Badrul Islam said it is unfortunate that Milli and social organizations are not taking any interest in Yoga but if any of them would organize a Yoga camp, he is prepared to provide guidance.
