Amarinder vows to go all out against Akalis

By IANS,

Chandigarh : Buoyed by his appointment as chairman of the Congress party election campaign committee, former Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh Wednesday said he would “let myself loose” on the ruling Akali Dal in the state.

“The only language that the Akalis understand is that of aggression and I will let myself loose on them with a series of rallies and other political events,” said Amarinder.

Amarinder, who was sidelined by the Congress after the party lost the assembly polls in February last year, has now been brought to the centre stage by the party central leadership.

At the same time, the Congress took away the post of state unit president from Rajinder Kaur Bhattal, who was at loggerheads with Amarinder in recent months, and retained Mohinder Singh Kaypee as acting president of the state Congress.

Bhattal will now only be leader of the Congress legislature party in the assembly.

The Parkash Singh Badal-led Akali Dal government has slapped corruption cases against Amarinder through the state vigilance bureau.

Though Amarinder has been questioned by vigilance officials, he has not been arrested in the multi-million scam during his tenure as the chief minister from 2002 to 2007.
