Mumbai : Indian equity markets stayed in the green Wednesday afternoon, though the indices came down from their morning highs due to profit booking. Capital goods and banking stocks continued to be in demand.
At 2:00 p.m., the 30-share benchmark index of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), the Sensex, was at 15,283.08 points, up 322.01 points or 2.15 percent from its closing figure Tuesday. It had touched a high of 15,422.82 points earlier Wednesday.
At the same time the broader based S&P CNX Nifty index of the National Stock Exchange was at 4566.90 points, up by 64.05 points or 1.42 percent from its previous close.
The market breadth was positive. On BSE, 1,514 shares advanced, 1,068 declined and 85 remained unchanged.
