Rane’s revolt does not match party discipline: Congress

By IANS,

New Delhi : The Congress Friday said that Maharashtra leader Narayan Rane, who has threatened to quit the party over his differences with Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh, should have discussed the matter within the party rather than going public.

“It there was some controversy (over allotment of land to Videcon), then it should have been discussed on party platform, not through the media and public,” Congress spokesperson Shakeel Ahmed told reporters here.

“If there was a decision taken by the cabinet to which he did not agree, the matter should have been raised it in the party. To come out and discuss it with the media does not match with party discipline,” he said.

Rane has publicly criticised the Maharashtra cabinet decision to allot Navi Mumbai’s CIDCO land to Videocon at a hugely subsidised rate.

“No decision can be taken until the Congress president returns from Beijing,” Ahmed said, when asked if the party proposed to act against the former Shiv Sena leader.

Rane met some Congress leaders in New Delhi Thursday.
