Congress asks Left for development road map for Kerala

By IANS,

Thiruvananthapuram : Congress leader and former chief minister Oommen Chandy Monday welcomed the ruling Communist Party of India-Marxist’s (CPI-M) announcement to attract Rs.250 billion worth of investments in next three years in Kerala and asked the Left government to prepare a development road map for the state.

“We extend our full support for this and the need of the hour is for the government to spell out a road map and if they do so we will whole-heartedly support the government to see that it becomes effective,” said Chandy.

The CPI-M after a three-day state executive meeting Saturday announced plans to attract private capital and investors to the state.

The meet was not attended by Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan.

“When we (Congress) ruled the state between 2001-06, don’t you all remember how the Left, then in the opposition, came out with hurdles for every project. The irony today is that the very same Left, now in governance, has sought our help for the developmental projects that we had planned and they opposed. But we will work as a constructive opposition,” Chandy told
reporters.
