Ranchi : The government has initiated a process to withdraw cases against people who fought for a separate Jharkhand, nearly eight years after the state was carved out of Bihar.
The home department has come out with an advertisement in newspapers, seeking applications from those who have cases pending against them for their role in the Jharkhand statehood movement.
“The government, while reviewing the cases, found that they are either pending in the court or are under investigation. The state government is contemplating to withdraw the cases,” the advertisement states.
The accused have been asked to submit their details to the offices of their respective district superintendent of police, who will forward the list to the district deputy commissioner.
The list will then be sent for review to a committee at the district level. The committee is expected to submit its report and recommendations to the home department by Aug 31.
“The cases will be withdrawn on the basis of merit,” a home department official told IANS. The government has earlier withdrawn similar cases filed against around 3,200 people.
