Iran and EU to Continue Nuclear Talks

By Prensa Latina,

Tehran : Iran and the European Union agreed to continue the conversations to solve the crisis on the Iranian nuclear program, said a local TV news report.

Cuerpo : According to a state TV network, Iranian main negotiator Saeed Jalili agreed in a telephone conversation with the EU Foreign Policy Director, Javier Solana, to continue the dialogue on the topic.

The exchange occurred some days after the EU adopted a new package of economic sanctions to force Iran to quit the uranium enrichment program, an indispensable step in its purposes to develop peaceful use of the nuclear energy.

Punitive measures include restrictions in public services and more rigid inspections.

Iran and the EU agreed to continue the conversations in a constructive atmosphere.

Jalili and Javier Solana said they were both satisfied with the conversations in Geneva, Switzerland, last month, and the meetings after that.

Solana is the most visible face from the United Nations Security Council and Germany, the so-called 5+1 Group, which proposed a package of incentives to Iran, in exchange for the Iranian renunciation to what the 5+1 Group considers a nuclear program with military objectives.

Meanwhile, Iranian Parliament president Ali Larijani criticized Washington and European powerful countries for wanting to stop Iran from developing itself scientifically.

“The US and EU powers would not like to see Iran as a country with modern and up-to-date technologies. They have appropriated the scientific progress and are strived to preserve a monopoly on these technologies,” Larijani said.

He pointed out Iran is on the way to reach a developed country status and considered necessary to keep the national unity, to go through this stage successfully.
