Equity markets stay in the red early afternoon

Mumbai : Indian equity markets stayed in the red early Wednesday afternoon, with selling pressure on banking, realty and capital goods stocks.

At 1:00 p.m., the 30-share benchmark index of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), the Sensex, was at 15,168.57 points, down 43.56 points or 0.29 percent from its closing figure Tuesday. It had touched a low of 15,013.06 earlier Wednesday.

At the same time the broader based S&P CNX Nifty index of the National Stock Exchange was down by 4.70 points or 0.10 percent at 4,547.55.

However, the market breadth was positive. On BSE, 1,338 shares advanced, 1,088 declined and 108 remained unchanged.
