La Paz : The governments of Bolivia and Libya established diplomatic relations officially in virtue of an understanding memorandum Wednesday, signed in this capital.
David Choquehuanca, Bolivian Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Libyan Foreign Ministry General Director for America Mohamed Matri were in charge of signing the agreement.
The document highlights the intention of both countries to establish links of friendship based on equality and mutual respect for sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity and domestic affairs.
Choquehuanca said the new Bolivian foreign policy is searching for an insertion in the world under the principles of respect to self-determination for every country of the world, and that Bolivia shares social change, fighting poverty and defense for the rights of every country to rule their own destinies, just as Libya.
Matri said Libya concedes importance to the exchange with countries of the Third World and expressed the disposition of his government to work together to benefit their respective peoples.
Both coincided in the existing interest to start collaboration in different sectors and deepen bilateral links.
In further statements to the press Matri said that Libya counts on a fund of 80 billion dollars to make investments in Latin America.
He added that Bolivia will be one of the beneficiaries.
After signing the document both countries want to start steps for the opening of the respective embassies in La Paz and Tripoli.
