Kerala to have several new IT parks: Achuthanandan

Thiruvananthapuram : Several IT parks will be set up in Kerala in the next few months, Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan said Friday.

“Set on the lines of the Technopark and the Infopark campus in Kochi, we will set up a Cyber City at Kozhikode. Similarly, smaller IT parks will come up in districts like Alappuzha, Kollam and Trissur and in north Kerala,” Achuthanandan told the Independence Day parade here.

Sectors like IT and tourism are on the verge of take off, he said, adding that software exports from the state touched Rs.10 billion this year.

He said that in three years the first phase of the proposed Vizhinjam Port would be ready, 500 MW of power would be added, the state would be able to achieve self sufficiency in food production and the Kollam-Kottaparam waterway would be ready.

He pointed out that the civil society in the state should stand up against incidences of atrocities on women.

“The latest device now being used to abuse women is the mobile. Strong measures will be taken to end (this),” added Achuthanandan.

Across the state, impressive parades took place with cabinet ministers taking the salute at Independence Day celebrations.

A painting competition was held in front of the state secretariat in which hundreds of children participated.
