Garhshankar (Punjab) : Banned medicines worth over Rs.100,000 were seized by health department officials from the chemist shop of Bahujan Samaj Party’s (BSP) Punjab unit president, an official said Sunday.
Drugs inspector Jasbir Singh Sunday said that the chemist shop, Avtar Medical Store in this Hoshiarpur district town, 100 km from Chandigarh, was raided Saturday following a tip-off by health officials that banned medicines were being sold there.
The chemist shop is registered in the name of Punjab BSP president Avtar Singh Karimpuri. He claimed that the shop was being managed by his brother.
Hundreds of bottles of syrups, and strips of tablets and capsules of various banned medicines were recovered from the shop, said inspector Singh.
Karimpuri said the raid at his shop was politically motivated and carried out at the behest of the Akali Dal government in the state.
