Algiers/Paris : At least 12 people, including 11 security officials, were killed when suspected Islamist terrorists attacked a military convoy near the coastal town of Skikda, 350 km east of Algiers, French radio reported Tuesday.
Ten military personnel were injured in the blast which took place Sunday, the report said. Four of the attackers were killed in the firefight following the bombing.
No organisation had yet claimed to be behind the attack.
The blast was the most serious in the region which has seen repeated attacks by extremists in recent months, including three suicide bombings, in which seven people were killed and 57 injured.
The terrorist group Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb had claimed responsibility for two of the three suicide attacks.
