Iran-IAEA negotiations on technical cooperation to continue

Tehran : Iran’s ambassador and permanent representative in the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Ali Asghar Soltanieh has said that talks here between Iran and the agency was held in a scientific, technical and constructive atmosphere.

At the end of the three-day negotiation Wednesday between deputy head of the IAEA for Safeguards Affairs Olli Heinonen with officials from Iran’s Atomic Energy Organisation (IAEO), Soltanieh told IRNA: “The negotiation concerning technical cooperation between Iran and IAEA will continue.”

Deputy head of the IAEO for International Affairs Mohammad Saeedi also described talks with Heinonen as “positive”.

He said that during the last three days the talks were held in a constructive atmosphere and it is to be continued.

The senior official said: “Issues related to inspections between the IAEA and the IAEO were discussed and both sides agreed to continue the negotiations.”

Heinonen, accompanied by one of the IAEA’s experts, arrived in Tehran on Monday and departed Wednesday evening.

This is his second visit to Tehran this month.

IAEA Director-General Mohamed ElBaradei is due to present a report on Iran’s nuclear programme and the country’s cooperation with the agency to the IAEA’s Board of Governors in early September.
