Kolkata : Solar products and integrated solar engineering solutions provider Bhaskar Silicon Ltd Thursday launched the largest integrated solar power complex in the world for an investment of Rs.55 billion in Haldia, West Bengal.
Jyoti Poddar, managing director of the company said: “We have already got 200 acre of land for the project. We have been able to identify Centrotherm Germany to tie up with us for setting up of the largest integrated polysilicon and solar manufacturing complex in the world at Haldia in West Bengal.”
The plant would generate 250 MW of solar power annually, he said.
This project has come at a time when the entire world is looking at green energy.
State industries minister Nirupam Sen said: “Tropical countries have immense opportunities to develop green energy.”
“These types of plants will not only produce polysilicon, if the technology is taken further it can also produce semi-conductor chips,” the minister added.
Infrastructure financing company SREI Infrastructure Finance Limited would partially finance this project. The company’s chairman and managing director Hemant Kanoria said: “We will have 25-30 percent stake in this company. Bhaskar Silicon will have 50 percent stake and the rest would be divided among the Centrotherm German and a US-based company.”
The investment for the first phase of the project would be around Rs.30 billion and it would be over by 2010.
The state government through its renewable arm Green Power Corporation would also invest in the equity of the project.
