Bhubaneswar : A complaint has been lodged against Orissa Deputy Speaker Prahallad Dora and his son Chinmay Kumar Dora for allegedly torturing Chinmay’s wife for dowry. The son is also accused of bigamy, police said Friday.
Smita Majhi, a resident of Jeypore town in Koraput district, about 520 km from here, married Chinmay July 9.
In a written complaint submitted to officials at the Jeypore police station Thursday, 26-year-old Majhi alleged that soon after her wedding she realised that her husband was already married.
District Superintendent of Police Deepak Kumar Cahuhan told IANS that Majhi also claimed that when she complained to her in-laws about Chinmay being already married, they tortured her and demanded dowry.
A complaint has been registered against Chinmay, his parents and his sister.
The deputy speaker denied the allegations, saying it was a conspiracy against him and his family members.
