Beirut : Lebanese Prime Minister Fouad Seniora intends to send a letter to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon regarding Israeli threats against Lebanon, local As-Safier daily reported Friday.
The PM raised the issue in the cabinet meeting Thursday and condemned the Israeli threats.
Israeli officials have made threats in recent days.
“The moment the Lebanese government confers legitimacy on Hezbollah, it must be understood that entire Lebanon will be targeted the same way that all Israel is target for Hezbollah,” Israeli Environment Minster Gideon Ezra told public radio.
Israeli Prime Minister’s spokesman Mark Regev said that Israel does not consider the whole state of Lebanon an enemy but that “the moment Hezbollah takes control of the Lebanese government, we will have to address the consequences”.
Israel and Hezbollah were engaged in 34 days of war in June 2006, the military conflict covered Beirut along with other areas, and hit infrastructures including Beirut international airport and main roads and bridges.
The 2006 war was triggered when Hezbollah captured two Israeli soldiers in a deadly cross-border raid.
In July 2008, Israel received the bodies of the two soldiers in a swap operation with Hezbollah, in return for Lebanese and Arab detainees in Israel.
