Two Jordanians accused of suicide attack plot plead not guilty

By Xinhua,

Amman : Two men accused of suicide attack plot pleaded not guilty in their open trial at the State Security Court, while a third defendant remains at large, local daily the Jordan Times reported on Friday.

The three men are charged with plotting subversive acts, attempting to carry out a terrorist attack and possession of flammable substances with illicit intent, a senior judicial source said.

One defendant decided to launch a military operation with a carloaded with explosives against a police battalion near a prison, but changed his mind due to high security presence there, according to charge sheet.

The man, along with two other defendants, then decided to target a church in North Marka, but their plot was smashed when their car was forced by police to stop for a routine inspection on the way to the church, it added.

The tribunal adjourned the session until September 15 when the court will begin hearing prosecution witnesses.
