Islamabad : Pakistan People’s Party Saturday announced the name of its Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari as the candidate for the post of President of Pakistan.
Central leader of PPP, Senator Raza Rabbani made the announcement at a press briefing held here at Zardari House.
“Asif (Ali) Zardari has accepted to contest the election for the office of president of Pakistan after the party unanimously drafted him to do so, ” Mian Raza Rabbani told reporters.
Minister for Information and Broadcasting Sherry Rehman and PPP Chief Whip in National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah were present on the occasion.
Raza Rabbani said it was Asif Ali Zardari who waged a struggle against dictatorship of General (Retd.) Pervez Musharraf. The tough struggle of democratic forces made it possible to rid the country of dictatorship, he added.
