New Delhi : The condition of the man who had been brutally stabbed by a gang in the heart of the capital continued to remain critical Saturday, even as police claimed to be closing in on the culprits.
Manmohan Singh, a 32-year-old railway employee, was stabbed repeatedly in Connaught Place Thursday night when he was returning home on a scooter, police said.
“He was rushed to the Ram Manohar Lohia hospital by an auto rickshaw driver. He was operated upon and his condition is stated to be critical,” Delhi Police spokesperson Rajan Bhagat told IANS Saturday.
Police said the miscreants, after stabbing Singh, tried to steal his scooter but ran away on seeing a police control room (PCR) van patrolling the area.
“One Virender Yadav was arrested Friday night and a knife has been recovered from his possession,” Bhagat said.
“Yadav is being interrogated and police are trying to nab the other members of the gang. However, the cause of attack is not know yet,” Bhagat added.
After being stabbed, Singh ran for help and was rushed to the hospital by Nizaqat Hussain, an auto rickshaw driver.
