Moscow : Russia questioned on Friday the supposed humanitarian operation by US ships near the Georgian coasts, in the Black Sea, and announced the creation of security areas in southern Ossetia and Abkhasia.
The presence of NATO ships in the Black Sea does not contribute in any way to regional stability, Russian General Staff Vice-chief, Gen. Anatoli Nogovitzyn stated.
The military officer verified that four NATO frigates entered on Thursday the Black Sea, where Russian war ships keep patrolling the coasts of Abkhasia, an autonomous region that declared its independence from Georgia in 1993.
Nogovitzyn also verified that the armed actions by Georgian troops on August 7, against Tsjinvali, the capital of South Ossetia, Russia reserved its right to increase its peacekeeping troops in Gerogia, “in case it is necessary.”
According to the officer, 18 additional check points were established along the borders of Abkhasia and South Ossetia, which have already requested that Moscow recognizes their sovereignty.
A contingent of 2,142 Russian peacekeeping troops will settle in Abkhasia and 452 in South Ossetia, said the general, who verified that the Russian troops are in the final stage of their withdrawal from Georgia.
