Ahmedabad : Safdar Nagori, former head of the banned Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI), was brought here from Madhya Pradesh Sunday evening in connection with the July 26 serial bombings.

Nagori, who was brought from Rewa jail by road, will be produced before a court Monday, said Ahmedabad Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Ashish Bhatia.

The police suspect Nagori to be the key conspirator behind the 22 blasts that claimed 57 lives in Ahmedabad July 26. The Gujarat police had sought his custody from their Madhya Pradesh counterparts.

Four other SIMI activists from Madhya Pradesh – Nagori’s brother Kamruddin Nagori, Aamil Pervez, Asif Hussain and Abdul Sibli – were produced before Metropolitan Magistrate J.K. Pandya earlier Sunday and sent to police custody till Sep 3.

Nine SIMI activists were arrested Aug 16 for their alleged involvement in the Ahmedabad blasts conspiracy and the later arrests are based on their interrogations.
