Self-employment project for women by scientist body

Lucknow : In order to make rural women of Uttar Pradesh self-employed , a scientist body here has initiated a training project, officials said Monday.

Scientists at the Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (CIMAP), Lucknow have launched a pilot project to train rural women for self employment.

“CIMAP has undertaken a programme to train rural women in making herbal products like incense sticks, rose water and other products,” said A.K. Singh, a CIMAP scientist.

Initially, the programme was launched for villages in Lucknow and Barabanki districts.

“We have, however, invited rural women from all parts of the state to attend our training programme,” he added.

According to scientists, at present about 100 women from Pratapgarh, Ghazipur, Varanasi, Rae Bareli, Lucknow and Barabanki districts are undergoing training.

“The main objective behind the training programme is to make rural women self-reliant, which in turn will help them to lead a better life,” said Singh.

CIMAP is governed by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR).
