Tata Metaliks to prospect for iron ore in Maharashtra

Kolkata : Tata Steel subsidiary and pig iron manufacturer Tata Metaliks Ltd has received the go-ahead to prospect for iron ore in Maharashtra, a top company official said here Monday.

“We have received a prospecting licence for iron ore mining near Reddi in Maharashtra,” said Harsh Jha, Tata Metaliks managing director, on the sidelines of a seminar organised by Confederation of Indian Industry here.

The company will start assessing the reserves shortly.

Jha said Tata Metaliks also planned to set up an 800,000-tonne capacity steel plant in Karnataka, and that its application for 700 acres for the purpose has been approved by the state government.

“We can now proceed with the actual land acquisition there,” he added.

Jha did not divulge any details of the proposed steel plant.
