Arrested highway robbers desired flashy lifestyle

By IANS,

Ghaziabad : The desire for a flashy lifestyle turned four youths, including the son of a Delhi Police head constable, into highway robbers. The gang was busted and two cars were seized, a police official said Tuesday.

Naveen Yadav (18), Gaurav Verma (19), Mohammad Nasir(20) and Farid Saifi(19) were arrested from Vaishali, near a beer factory.

While Naveen and Verma are students, Nasir and Saifi are into their small-time family businesses. The mastermind Rohit Srivastava (30) is yet to be nabbed.

Two cars – a Swift belonging to Verma and a stolen Hyundai Accent – were seized along with six mobiles and Rs.500 in cash.

“These boys, wishing to lead flashy lifestyles, had fallen prey to the lure of quick money and entered the world of crime. They used to offer lifts to people and loot them on the way. The young gang was active in Noida, East Delhi and Ghaziabad,” said Deepak Ratan, senior superintendent of police of Ghaziabad.

Yadav, son of a Delhi Police head constable posted at Mandawli in Delhi, said: “We were asked by Rohit Aug 23 to accompany him to EDM Mall in Kaushambi. As we left the mall at about 10.30 p.m., Rohit offered lift to a man at Maharajpur and assured him to drop him at Meerut.”

“But, after travelling some distance, he got down near Ansal Plaza and looted the man of his two mobiles and some cash. Since, we were also with him, we also had to pay the price,” he said.

The youths said they were intimidated by Rohit, who hails from Palwal in Haryana.
