Lalu urges PM to visit Bihar’s flood-hit areas

By IANS,

New Delhi : Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief and Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Tuesday urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to visit the flooded areas in Bihar where rampaging rivers have rendered hundreds of thousands homeless.

Lalu Prasad said in a letter to the prime minister that the army should take charge of the relief and rescue operations in the state.

The RJD chief also asked Manmohan Singh to order officials of the National Disaster Management Authority to visit Bihar.

The minister said a high-level technical group should visit the Bheem Nagar barrage and other embankments to find out why they breached, causing massive floods.

The floods in Bihar have affected over two million people in 14 districts. The situation is particularly alarming in Madhepura, Supaul and Araria districts.
