Deoband (Saharanpur): The Advisory Board of Darul Uloom Deoband in its two-day meeting concluded on August 26, 2008 approved the resignation of Qari Muhammad Usman and Maulana Arshad Madani from their posts at the seminary.
Qari Muhammad Usman, being the President of Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind had to resign from the post of Deputy Rectorship of Darul Uloom Deoband. The Advisory Board finally approved his resignation. In a similar case, the Head of Education Department Maulana Arshad Madani had to resign from the post held in Darul Uloom Deoband and consequently he is now simply an Arabic Professor.
In a move to keep the seminary away from the leadership dispute in the Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind, the Deoband authorities had some time back asked Qari Usman and Maulana Madani to choose either of the two posts: at Deoband or in Jamiat.
The dispute over presidentship of Jamiat began on March 6 this year when the executive council of the Jamiat passed a no-confidence motion against the then-president of Jamiat Maualana Arshad Madani.
Now, Maulana Abdul Khaliq Sambhali has been appointed as Deputy Rector in place of Qari Muhammad Usman. Similarly, Maulana Mujeebullah has been appointed as Secretary of the Academic Council. Besides, Maulana Muhammad Ayub of Muzaffar Nagar has been appointed as Deputy Secretary of the Education Department in place of Maulana Muhammad Ahmad who resigned from his post.
A new body has been formed in order to tackle all educational problems. This body consists of the Rector Maulana Marghubur Rahman besides the Acting Rector Maulana Ghulam Rasool Khamosh. Deputy Rectors have also been included in the body.
Moreover, well-known Arabic Professor Maulana Riyasat Ali and Maulana Mujeebullah have been taken as the members of this body. Maulana Mujeebullah will work as Secretary of the Academic Council.
The session was presided over by Maulana Abul Qasim Nomani. The annual session of the Advisory Board of Darul Uloom Deoband was attended by 16 members out of 21. They included Maulana Nizamuddin, Mufti Manzoor Ahmad, Maulana Abdul Aleem Farooqi, Maulana Ghulam Rasool Khamosh and Maulana Marghubur Rahman.
The session was concluded after the prayer of the Rector of Deoband Maulana Marghubur Rahman.
