Jordan’s King Abdullah, Sarkozy voice support for Palestinian state

Amman : Jordan’s King Abdullah II and French President Nicolas Sarkozy have voiced support for a Palestinian state as solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, The Jordan Times reported Thursday.

In a joint communique issued after their talks at the Elysee Palace Wednesday, the two sides stressed the importance of establishment of an independent, democratic and viable Palestinian state living side by side in peace with Israel.

They also underlined the role the European Union (EU) in the Middle East peace-making, and reiterated the importance of comprehensive cooperation between the EU and the Middle East-North African region. France currently holds the EU Presidency.

King Abdullah II Wednesday arrived in Paris following his tour of Russia and Turkmenistan.

During his stay in France, the two sides signed an agreement on the peaceful use of nuclear energy, which would enhance and institutionalize cooperation in the nuclear field between Jordanian and French agencies.
