Riyadh : Customs’ officials of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states held their 37th meeting here on Saturday at the GCC’s General Secretariat headquarters.
President of the Qatari Public Authority for Customs and Ports Ahmad Ali Al-Muhannadi addressed the meeting by saying that accelerating global changes had led GCC states to update their custom systems.
Al-Muhannadi pointed to several enacted or under development international conventions that deal with modern customs’ procedures, some of which aimed at simplifying such procedures and others focused on security aspects.
Al-Muhannadi called for developing human, technological and legislative resources so as to cope with such anticipated changes in the area of customs.
Topping the meeting’s agenda is means of tackling obstacles obstructing pan-GCC trade.
The meeting would also focus on results of the technical follow-up committee on the unified custom law, the draft unified mechanism for customs fees on means of transport, as well as results of studies worked out by other specialized committees.
Adopting the UNSECO and World Customs Organizations (WCO) export certificates is also enlisted on the agenda.
Recommendations for the meeting would be forwarded to the GCC 77th financial and economic meeting to be held on September 17-18.
