12 rescue teams from Gujarat flown to Bihar

By IANS,

Ahmedabad : Twelve rescue teams, each equipped with a motorized boat and life-jackets, Sunday left Gujarat for Bihar to give a helping hand to victims of the flood tragedy, an official said here.

Two Indian Air Force (IAF) planes flew the rescue team to Bihar, said Gujarat State Disaster Management Authority (GSDMA) CEO Rajesh Kishore.

“At least 61 trained personnel will be helping the flood victims in their hour of need. We are doing whatever is required in this regard and if need be we will dispatch more rescue teams,” he said.

The move comes after Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi announced Rs.50 million (Rs.5 crore) aid for the flood-ravaged state and assured all support in relief and rescue operations.

The central home ministry made arrangements for airlifting rescue teams following Modi’s request.

As many as 125 life-jackets and ropes were being dispatched to Bihar as the state was facing a shortage rescue materials, officials said.
