By DPA,
Ankara : Four Turkish soldiers and two Kurdish militants were killed early Sunday when the separatists attacked a military police station in east Turkey, the Dogan news agency reported.
Using long-range weapons, Kurdish Workers’ Party (PKK) militants opened fire on the station in the province of Bingol.
Four gendarmes – military police responsible for security in rural areas – were killed in the initial attack and as many wounded, Dogan reported. Operations were launched to capture those responsible.
Ankara blames the separatist group for the deaths of more than 32,000 people since the early 1980s when the PKK began its fight for independence or autonomy for the mainly Kurdish-populated southeast of Turkey.
The PKK is considered by the US and the European Union as a terrorist group.
