Mexico City : A Mexican woman was killed in Wednesday’s terror attacks in India’s Mumbai metropolis, EFE reported Monday quoting Mexico’s foreign ministry.
The Mexican embassy in India “learned that one of the victims of the terrorist attack on the Jewish Cultural Center in Mumbai is a Mexican national who was inside that institution,” a ministry release said without identifying the woman.
Islamist terrorists attacked several places in Mumbai, including the Taj Palace and Tower Hotel, the Oberoi Trident Hotel, the railway station and the Jewish centre, in a coordinated action apparently targeting westerners, leaving at least 183 dead and more than 300 wounded.
Some reports said at least nine of the victims were killed at the Jewish centre.
Mexico’s diplomatic mission in India are “maintaining close contact with Indian authorities and participating in the task of fully identifying the Mexican national,” the release said.
Two Mexican couples survived the attack on the Taj hotel, Mexican Ambassador to India Rogelio Granguillhome Morfin said.
Two other Mexicans, registered at the Oberoi Trident Hotel, were safe and sound, the secretariat said.
