Fight terror unitedly, urge Gujarat Christians

By IANS,

Ahmedabad : A body of Christians in Gujarat Wednesday urged Indians to unite in the fight against terror and asked politicians to build bridges in society.

Father S.J. Cedric Prakash Prakash, convenor of the Gujarat United Christians Forum for Human Rights (GUCFHR), condemned the terror strikes in Mumbai and said: “We sympathise with all those families who lost their near and dear ones and very specially the families of those brave soldiers who gave up their lives while protecting others.”

He added: “We live today in a country which is becoming polarized due to painful divisions in the name of religion, nationality, language, ethnicity. We call upon citizens from all walks of life to stand united in their fight against terrorism and every form of violence.”

Prakash, who is also director of Prashant, a centre for human rights, justice and peace, called upon the political class to build bridges rather than divide people, to safeguard the constitutional rights of every single citizen and not indulge in petty politicking that damages the diversity and secular fabric of our country.

He also said that all churches in Gujarat would hold special prayers during their regular services Saturday and Sunday.

“Our prayer will be that love, peace and non-violence touch the hearts of every citizen of our country and that those who have been affected by this tragedy experience comfort which only god can give,” Prakash said.
