Candidates approaching astrologers to know their fate

By Anil Sharma,IANS,

Jaipur : With the day of counting votes for the Rajasthan assembly elections approaching, the candidates are visiting temples and approaching astrologers to know about their victory prospects.

It is turning out to be a money spinning time for the soothsayers. Local astrologers say they have been getting frantic calls from anxious candidates ever since polling concluded Thursday evening for the state’s 200-seat assembly. Votes are to be counted Monday.

“I am getting regular calls. The candidates want to know what their stars foretell, will they become MLAs (members of legislative assembly) or not,” Acharya Kumar Ashish, a popular Jaipur-based astrologer told IANS.

“Everyone is ready with his or her horoscope. They just want appointments with astrologers like me and are willing to undertake any kind of puja or hawan (religious ceremony) if it helps them in winning,” Ashish said.

“Most of their questions revolve around their victory chances and what colour of clothes would benefit them on D-day,” he said. Ahead of the elections, the candidates consulted to know the auspicious time and day to file nominations. And now, they are anxious about their fate.

Another Jaipur-based astrologer, A.K. Sharma, said this time the difference between the polling and counting is of three days which seems too long a wait for the candidates.

“These candidates want to know the results before they are out. And the trend this time seems to be prevalent among both the young and the elderly,” Sharma said.

S.K. Mehta, an eminent Vastushastri said that he had been busy suggesting to the candidates to make changes in their houses and offices.

“Very many candidates from Delhi and Rajasthan have approached me asking what needs to be done to improve their victory prospects. Elections have really made us busy,” Mehta said.

“I have gone to three astrologers since yesterday and have asked them about my chances,” said a BJP candidate requesting anonymity.

Besides the astrolgers, the candidates are seen visiting temples seeking divine help.
