New Delhi : China and India began the second round of military exercises Saturday in Belgaum, Karnataka state, rated there as historic for being held in Indian territory for the first time.
The maneuvers are for the training of troops in anti-insurgent and anti-terrorist tactics and operations, India’s Army Major General V.K. Narula told press.
The first joint drills were held in December 2007 in the Chinese city of Kunming.
The bilateral program is the result of an agreement aimed at cultivating good military relations and encouraging confidence.
It was signed in May 2006 during the visit to Beijing of then Defense Minister and now Foreign Minister Pranab Mukherjee.
