Dubai : The incoming US administration must understand the role of key players in the Middle East if it looks forward to resolving the crisis there, WAM has quoted a United Arab Emirates (UAE) daily as commenting.
”It is imperative for the next US administration to fully comprehend the role played by key nations in the Middle East region. Without this understanding, any effort to address the challenging problems would prove futile,” wrote Gulf News Sunday in its editorial.
”Over the past years, relations between the US and Syria have been sour, counterproductive and focussed on the exchange of accusations by both sides. With a new US president being ushered in, the opportunity for mending fences could not be better than now,” the daily said.
It said the Arab world expects the new US administration to engage in a serious and candid dialogue and address all issues and “recognise the legitimacy of the core Syrian policy: that of ending the occupation and making peace,” it said.
“The Syrian role surely cannot be ignored and since the latter is being receptive to constructive dialogue, establishing a platform where stances could be brought closer is a must,” the Gulf News said.
