Bangladesh: Army to be deployed across the country from Dec 20, says Moeen

Chittagong, Bangladesh : Chief of Army Staff of Bangladesh General Moeen U Ahmed said said army would be deployed across the country from December 20 as per the government decision on the occasion of parliamentary election.

General Moeen U Ahmed said this on Saturday while talking to journalists after inauguration of redesigned Bhatiyari Golf Course at the picturesque Bhatiary valley near Chittagong Cantonment this afternoon.

The Golf Course has been renovated aiming at making it a golf course of international standard under the supervision of Australian architect James Willsur. Bhatiyari Golf and Country Club (BGCL) has spent a total of Taka 4.50 crore for this purpose.

The Army chief arrived at the Golf Course straight from Dhaka by a helicopter to inaugurate the redesigned golf facility. The new facility is enriched with 19 golf bridges, 48 golf-chase, 70 drainage-points and 42 bunkers.

General Moeen categorically said that the members of the Armed forces would stay about 200 meters away from respective polling centers and would play their role so that the voters could come to the polling centers without any obstacle and fear.

They would remain alert so that no bad element could create disturbance in and around the polling centers, he added.

Responding to a query on his remark to request the government for lifting state of emergency before the national elections, the Army Chief said “wait, time will say.”

He inaugurated the golf facility by teeing off a shot in presence of civil and military dignitaries. Earlier he released balloons and a dove on the occasion.

The Army chief also planted a sapling on the premises of the Golf Club.

GOC of Chittagong and vice president of BGCL Major General Shamim Chowdhury, other vice presidents Mohammad Abdul Moyeen, Colonel (retd) Iqbal Shafi, Mirza Salman Ispahani and Habibullah Khan and other senior civil and military officials were present at the function.
