Bhopal : With the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leading in 127 of the 230 constituencies in Madhya Pradesh, party workers across the sprawling state broke into celebrations as votes polled in the assembly elections were counted Monday.
The opposition Congress was dumbstruck and its party offices wore deserted looks. But its leaders still maintained that the previous BJP administration was neck deep into corruption.
BJP workers gathered outside the party’s state headquarters in Bhopal dancing to the beating of drums and bursting of firecrackers. However, no senior leader was present at the BJP office.
There was a similar celebration mood at all the district headquarters in the state.
“We were confident of getting a clear majority. The trends show that our confidence was not misplaced,” BJP spokesman Rameshwar Sharma told IANS.
The Congress office was almost deserted.
