New Delhi : The Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) were locked in a neck and neck race for power in four states as millions of votes cast in assembly elections were counted Monday.
Election Commission officials said the Congress was comfortably ahead in the BJP-ruled Rajasthan while the BJP had taken a strong lead in Madhya Pradesh, a state it rules.
The BJP was marginally ahead of the Congress in Chhattisgarh, which too it governs. The Congress was in the lead in Delhi, the national capital it rules since 1998.
The Congress was also slightly ahead of the ruling Mizo National Front (MNF) in Mizoram, officials said quoting early trends.
The five states went to the polls from Nov 14 to Dec 4.
