London : The Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) is upset at England and Wales Cricket Board’s (ECB) decision to reduce number of international matches at Lord’s to evenly spread them to other venues.
As a result, ECB may restrict it to just two games at Lord’s every five years.
The MCC says the move would severely undermine its plans for a £200mn redevelopment of the ground.
“We’re disappointed that the ECB don’t recognise Lord’s as an iconic venue in the same way that Wembley and Twickenham are viewed by football and rugby,” MCC chief executive Keith Bradshaw was quoted as saying in the Daily Telegraph.
“If we don’t have assurity of major matches, which underpins future investment, we’ll have to ask ourselves if our plans are still justified as a major investment,” he said.
