New Delhi : Fewer infiltrators from Pakistan and Bangladesh were apprehended in 2008 in comparison to the previous two years, parliament was informed Wednesday.
A total of 123 people were caught at the India-Pakistan border in the 11 months to November against 128 in 2007, Minister of State for Home Radhika V. Selvi said in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha.
The Border Security Force (BSF) had apprehended 2,559 infiltrators at the India-Bangladesh border this year against 4,206 last year, Selvi added.
In 2006, a total of 5,130 foreign infiltrators were captured at the India-Bangladesh border.
“The apprehension of infiltrators indicates reduction in cross border infiltration on the India-Pakistan and India-Bangladesh borders,” Selvi said.
