Patna : At least 18 people have died in Bihar as temperatures dipped drastically in the last few days, official sources said Thursday.
Dense fog in many parts of the state early Thursday morning was followed by a cloudy sky and chilly winds caused by western disturbances, officials in the weather department said.
Minimum temperature of 13 and 12 degrees celsius was recorded here in the last two days.
Of the 18 people who died in the last forty-eight hours, four deaths each were reported from Muzaffarpur and Chapra districts, three each in Madhubani and Begusarai districts, two in Gaya district and one each in Patna and Darbhanga.
Many poor people, mostly rickshaw pullers, labourers and beggars were seen spending the night under the open sky.
The state would witness cold wave conditions in the coming days and the temperature is likely to drop below 10 degree celsius in the next few days, weather department officials said.
