Gehlot cabinet formation likely to be delayed

By IANS,

Jaipur : The formation of newly elected Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot’s cabinet is likely to be postponed to next week since the names of the ministers are yet to be finalised, Congress party sources said here Thursday.

The chief minister has already travelled once to New Delhi to discuss cabinet formation with Congress president Sonia Gandhi. However, he is slated to meet Gandhi again to seek her approval of those chosen for the council of ministers.

Some Congress leaders were of the opinion that the formation is being delayed on account of two reasons – the Congress falling short of majority and the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls.

“Gehlot has to keep both these things in mind while forming the cabinet and this is why it is being delayed,” a party leader said.

Various caste combinations, representation of various districts and offering plum positions to the independents supporting the Congress government in the state will have to be kept in mind while naming the ministers, he added.

Also, according to the Hindu calendar, the inauspicious month of ‘mal mas’ began Dec 16.

“Mal mas will last till Jan 14. During this period, no good work is taken up,” said Acharya Kumar Ashish, a popular Jaipur-based astrologer.
