Classmates to undergo polygraph test to crack three girls’ death

By IANS,

Alappuzha (Kerala) : In order to solve the mystery behind the suicide of three teenage girls in the state last month, three to four of their classmates would be put through the polygraph test, a senior police official said Sunday.

“The polygraph test would be done in the state capital,” Inspector General of Police Vinson M. Paul told IANS.

“We expect to get some clues from the tests. The tests would likely be conducted in the coming days,” said Paul.

Julie Varghese, Anila Babu, and Manju alias Vava, all 17-year-old girls, were students of Model Vocational Higher Secondary School in Ambalapuzha near here.

They were found dead after they consumed pesticide in their classroom after school hours, the police said. The three girls came from lower middle class families.

Even though initially the case was almost dismissed as a suicide, things took a turn when a journalist of a Malayalam daily, who was covering the case, was attacked by a group of unidentified men. One of the attackers of the journalist was arrested.

Following this, local Congress leaders raised their voices about the case and soon the government asked Paul to investigate it.
