New Delhi: Azamgarh’s renowned personality Maulana Aamir Rashadi’s son Mohammad Talha, 23, was picked up by the Nagpur ATS around 11:30 pm on December 20 at Nagpur station. He was traveling in a Hyderabad-bound train. Talha is employed with India’s leading IT company and posted at Hyderabad.

Giving details of the incident to TwoCircles.net on phone from Azamgarh, Maulana Rashadi, who is also director of UP’s famous madrasa Jamiatur Rashad in Azamgarh, said his son was going to Hyderabad to resume his office after Eid-Ul Azha vacation. After serving with the company (name of the company is withheld for the safety of his job) for two years in Delhi he was shifted to Hyderabad in January 2008 as financial analyst.

“He was travelling in AC coach of Patna-Sikandarabad Express. On way he met some of his friends in the train. They were coming from Patna. They were travelling in Sleeper Class. He came to his friends and ate together. At Nagpur Station he and one of his friends alighted to fetch water. All of a sudden 4-5 people appeared and picked him, he shouted but they gagged him. When his friend shouted at them they punched him down and threatened to kill. They were ATS people. Soon they got disappeared with Talha in the darkness. Those persons were perhaps were travelling or following him in the same train,” he said.

His friend reached Hyderabad and called some people in Azamgarh as he had not my contact no. I came to know about the incident around 10 am today, he added.

ATS people allowed Talha today to talk to his father. He is in Nagpur. “He said ATS is questioning me. You need not worry,” Maulana Rashadi told TCN.

In October this year in the wake of the Batla House encounter and arresting in Azamgarh, Maulana Rashadi had organized a big conference in Azamgarh under the aegis of the Ulema Council Uttar Pradesh. Locals say about 50,000 people had attended the conference. It was the largest gathering of Muslims in the history of Azamgarh.

Why have you been targeted?

“They want to crush me,” Maualan Rashadi said referring to the conference and now picking of his son. “This incident seems to be a conspiracy against me,” he added.

Why is Azamgarh being targeted?

“Muslims here are financially sound and they are strong also. This all is a conspiracy to break them and suppress their progress,” Maulana said adding that he has informed the central government authorities including Home Secretary about the incident.

The news about the incident has sent shock waves among people in Azamgarh. The Ulema Council has given a call for chakka jam tomorrow throughout the state.

Mohammad Belal, Azamgarh chief of BSP’s minority cell and ex-president of Shibli College students’ union told TCN on phone that locals are very angry over the incident and people will keep their shutters down in protest to the picking of Maulana’s son.
