Morgan confident of subcontinent hosting 2011 World Cup

Mohali : International Cricket Council (ICC) president David Morgan allayed fears over the 2011 World Cup Cricket in the subcontinent though he said security is a matter of concern.

The World Cup will be jointly hosted by India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. But frequent terror attacks in India and Pakistan have led to security concerns being raised by Australia.

“Of course, there has to be some concern about the next ICC World Cup to be played in the subcontinent. But I am confident that things will sorted out and the subcontinent will host the World Cup. There will be no problem for cricket in India. However, the final decision depends on the reports of our security advisors,” Morgan told a press conference at Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) Stadium here.

“The security arrangements and other conditions are quite different in India and Pakistan. I think situation is comparatively better in India. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) followed the decision of their government to cancel the Pakistan tour and ICC have no problem with it.”

He appreciated England cricket team for coming back to play the Test series in India.

“The play should go on in any circumstances and I really appreciate Pietersen and ECB officials of taking the decision to come back to India to resume the Test series,” Morgan said.
