New Delhi: Muslims in Azamgarh today did not open their shops to protest the picking of Maulana Aamir Rashadi’s son Mohammad Talha (23), a Wipro employee, by an ATS team at Nagpur station on Saturday night.
Sensing the anger of the people over the detention of the Azamgarh youth the district administration had made heavy deployment of police forces across the district. Muslim across the town kept their shops close and protested against the incident.
Police forces were deployed also at Shibli College from where Talha had done graduation, and the news of his detention had sent shock waves among the college community including teachers and students. The students union of the college had also given a call for bandh at the college.
“While the protest at the college was peaceful the police barged into the campus and arrested some protesting students,” Professor Alauddin of Shibli College told TwoCircles.net on phone.
The police had detained three students in the morning and by 8 pm had not released.
Talha was picked by an ATS team at 11:30 pm on December 21 at Nagpur railway station when he alighted from the Patna-Sikanderabad express to fetch water. He was going to Hyderabad to join Wipro office after spending Eid-Ul-Azha vacation. He has been with the company for three years.
Azamgarh people say that the latest arresting is a conspiracy to silence the voice against the atrocities of the security agencies. Maulana Rashadi was in the forefront in the agitation against the Batla House encounter and police actions in Azamgarh following Delhi serial blasts.
“The arresting of Maulana Rashadi’s son is just a conspiracy to silence his voice as he was leading the protest against the security agencies,” said Prof. Alauddin.
Latest media reports say Talha has been officially arrested by Andhra Pradesh ATS. He was presented in a Nagpur court in connection with the Delhi blast probe and has been sent to police custody till January 3.
