Markets dip in afternoon trade

Mumbai : A key index of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) dipped below the the psychologically important 10,000-mark in afternoon trade Monday after gyrating around the opening levels in the earlier sessions.

The 30-share sensitive index (Sensex) of the BSE, which opened at 10,102.42 points, fell below the 10,000-mark to rule at 9,992.15 points a little before 3 p.m., a fall of 107.76 points or 1.07 percent from its previous close.

The broader-based S&P Nifty followed a similar trend and was ruling around 3,045.65 points, 1.03 percent lower than its Friday close.

Broader market indices were again outperforming the Sensex, with the midcap index rising 0.36 percent, while the smallcap index rose 0.22 percent from Friday’s close.

Other Asian markets were a mixed bag with the Nikkei, a key index of the Tokyo Stock Exchange, rising 1.57 percent higher from last close.

However, the Hang Seng, a key index of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, fell 3.34 percent from its previous close.
