Shijiazhuang (China) : At least 17 workers were killed in a gas leak at a steel plant in northern China Wednesday, local authorities said.
The leak took place at about 9 a.m. in the Ganglu Iron and Steel Co. Ltd. in Zunhua city in Hebei province, about 150 km east of Beijing, a spokesman for the municipal government of Tangshan said.
The workers were poisoned by carbon monoxide that emanated from a blast furnace in the plant.
