Kabul : The US-led coalition forces have killed 11 Taliban militants and arrested two during an operation in the southern Afghan province of Kandahar, a coalition statement said Friday.
Coalition forces targeted militants responsible for a series of roadside bomb attacks, including the recent ones that killed a number of NATO-led International Security Assistance Forces (ISAF) soldiers in Maiwand district of Kandahar, the statement said.
“During the operation, coalition forces engaged the barricaded militants with small-arms fire and hand grenades killing 11 of them,” it said.
The security forces recovered landmines, rocket-propelled grenades, several machine guns, AK-47s, and explosives, the statement said.
“No martyrs here, just militants who put down roadside bombs that kill innocent Afghans and then hide among civilians putting them at even greater risk,” said Colonel Jerry O’Hara, a US armed forces spokesperson.
