Kozhikode : A court here Saturday charged 62 people with murder while acquitting 76 in Kerala’s Marad masscre of 2003 in which eight fisherfolks from a coastal village near here were killed.
Additional Sessions Judge (Special Court) Babu Mathew P. Joseph delivered the judgement amid unprecedented security.
The police also maintained strict vigil and regulated traffic in front of the special court.
The judge called each of the 139 accused and pronounced whether they were guilty or not. The detailed verdict will be delivered Monday.
The 139th accused, Abdul Latheef, was found guilty of misusing a mosque.
All the accused had been out on bail but the bail of those who were found guilty was cancelled.
Marad village has seen tension for several years and things took a turn for the worse when six people were killed in an attack in 2002.
The Kerala government last month asked the central government to launch a Central Bureau of Investigation probe into the Marad massacres of 2002 and 2003.
